These are the “mere” foothills west of Santiago (looking toward the sea) that barely top out above 10,000 feet. To the east (on the other side of the plane but, this morning, looking directly into the great, rising, molten orb, Sol) rise la Cordillera de los Andes. Highest point: Aconcagua at 22,841 mean feet above the sea (and on whose summit I once stood, back in 1997).
