“At some stage in most people’s lives, things turn upside down, and nothing is as you expected it to be.”
Conventional photographic wisdom (whatever that might be) says to be very careful about deliberately displaying a photograph upside down from its original orientation. Why? Well, the thinking goes that it can come off as gimmicky.
Maybe so. Likely so. Mostly so.
Still, it’s fun to do now and then to see if the result might be a bit more disorienting, abstract, and thought provoking.
Here are a few examples from my recent visits to Sawhill Ponds Wildlife Preserve. All of them are upside down–some quite obvious, others less so:
