This is a very worthwhile side trip and has the potential for some interesting photography. When the light is a bit less contrasty (overcast, maybe) or when there is still ice in the grotto area, this place could be a treasure trove of images.
Since it is a good way up the road toward Independence Pass from Aspen, the road is closed in winter making access a bit more difficult, unless you snowshoe or ski your way in. Check with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for travel restrictions, but it is typically closed from the first significant snowfall, or November 7, until Memorial Day weekend (even later, if a heavy snow winter).
Be careful in these caves and on the smooth granite rocks by the river as there are plenty of ways to hurt yourself whilst playing Dora the Explorer!

Down under…
The main creek once sliced through solid granite–and still does with the spring runoff. María Rosa and Maider explore topside, being very careful not to fall into the deep slit……
The nearby Roaring Fork River is also an excellent photographic subject–and picnic/play/swim spot…
Here are some more abstract interpretations of the area…
