Trapped indoors? If you look around you closely enough, you’ll find plenty of things to photograph.
The above image is a detail of the gear mechanism that allows our dining room table to slide open and accept an extra leaf in the middle–you know, to make room for those extra guests. I used a couple of black T-shirts on either side and below this wooden cross bar to ensure no distractions in the background (a table leg would have appeared in the bottom right sector, the edge of another crossbar in the upper left). I also set the tripod on the table itself and aimed the camera straight down onto the gear mechanism to make sure the sensor plane was exactly parallel to the the subject–much easier to get the focus right and avoid distortion.
A wonderful thing about the D800 is that you have plenty of pixels to work with in case you want to crop down to the “picture within the picture.” Like this (with a touch of sepia):
