This genre of photography turned out not to be the primary focus (sic!) of this trip, even though I had made that assumption before going. Instead, my eye wandered elsewhere (see the Geometric Quads and An Orwellian View in my Galleries).
But, it is still hard to avoid making street pictures when one is in the famous and infamous New York City and the eye is snagged by something, so I do have a few. A very few, really. There were a million and one images I was only able to record in my brain…there were sooo many missed opportunities. Maybe next trip.
Since I spent most of the time wandering the streets with my eyes tilted up, searching for the right combinations for my Orwellian NYC portfolio, I had my D800 with 70-200 f/4 attached as the passive weapon of choice (that is what would give me the image quality and the perspective I was after for those pictures). And, yes, on a rare occasion I did, in fact, use that monster, brick-like combination to capture a street scene. Instead, though, for the street, I mostly tended to use the iPhone 6 or the Fuji X100s.
See if you can tell which camera made which image in the collection after the click link…and, does it really matter?
Even though these might not rank up there as gold quality street images, I thought I’d post them for all my New Yorker friends who might get a kick out of trying to recognize the place. Again, you’ll have to click the following link to see them.
