There are a lot of contenders for the “coolest building in Barcelona”: Sagrada Familia, Torre Glòries, La Pedrera, Casa Batllò, that weird palm tree hotel (Renaissance Fira) out west of town, Hotel W right on the beach, the Tarradellas Hanging Garden building in the Les Corts area–soooo many possibilities.
If you have a modern mindset, though, the Naturgy building (formerly Gas Natural Fenosa), not far from the twin Olympic Towers, has to be pretty high and mighty on your unique architecture list.
A person could spend a good hour or more walking around the structure, inspecting various angles and reflections, changing lenses, and so on. Unusual weather and cloud conditions will have you coming back for different light and effects as well.
You can find some nifty images with most any lens length, but I found a super wide angle to be most useful. (See above and below.)
Here are some building stats:
–Designed by Enric Miralles (also an elite basketball player!). Finished after his death (b. 1955 – d. 2000).
–Owned by Naturgy Energy Group, S.A.; construction started in 2003 and finished in 2005.
–20 floors (3 additional floors below ground), 282 feet tall, 19 elevators, four concrete cores.
–They used five different types of glass of varying reflective and insulating properties.
