It has taken me forever and a couple of days, but I have finally sorted and worked through my backlog of photographs from our trip to Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula.
In previous posts, I have already presented various subsets of these pictures with commentary.
Here is what remains… the “odds and ends”, so to speak.
Odds and Ends
The first three images… flowing water in the fairyland forest on one of the many wonderful and relatively short trails in the Lake Quinault area. There is plenty of H2O to photograph in these parts. Very often, though, the problem is that the forest is so thick and lush it can be difficult to get into a position with a clear view:
A pair of typically OIympic silhouettes:
The tremendous amount of driftwood and weathered logs along and near the beach is a great place to find some interesting textures and patterns:
…and forms:
You’ll find some interesting, if chaotic, still lifes (“still”, until the next high tide, that is) if you watch the debris line along the beaches. As I say with the title of this one, “Barnacled Flotsam”:
This is one of the many odd tree fungi you will see attached to trees and logs. It appears soft, but this one is quite hard. And those aren’t water droplets–its sort of a sap-like substance (experts, feel free to chime in with a comment):
Tree Goiter, #1, Washington State, USA, 2019
Low tide and low fog, creating patterns:
Beach textures:
A lone and alone human bean (sic) appears out of the fog:
Finally, a few random color images…
Working in the abstract, a pair of harbor reflections:
Who, exactly, is Jeff, and why is the City of Seattle in love with his balls? Does he own a store that sells baseballs? Footballs? Soccer balls? Or, should we… uh… think the unthinkable…
And to conclude this essay of oddities and endities, what better way than to present three photographs of what is surely the most bizarre, most disgusting, and most unhygienic, tourist attraction in the world–the Gum Wall. CAUTION: The smell of gum sugar in this narrow space is overwhelming and just might make you want to vomit if you hang around too long. Bring a bag:
