Just in case you were sleeping, the above is an image from atop Sugarloaf Mountain looking at the eclipse, just before sunrise. The Arapaho Peaks, with a bit of a snow plume happening on the summits (high winds), are on the right. Bald Mountain is the mound in the foreground.
I figured there would be a crowd up there this morning, as Sugarloaf is such a great photo perch for these events. Not so. There were just two of us–Nate Paradiso, a local free lance photog (who just published a lunar eclipse sequence in Nat’l Geo!) and me. I’m looking forward to seeing what he came up with as he had the big lens you really need to get close and feral with the bizarre fingernail full Moon as it slid slowly down toward the snowy Divide.
Later, we were joined by John and his wonderful dog, Roxie. I ended up having a great chat with John (and Roxie) about old times on the crags around the Boulder area. Serendipity. He was local to the Sugarloaf community at the foot of the hill and had no idea there was an eclipse party going on until he arrived on top of Sugarloaf–he was just out for a walk because he couldn’t sleep!
And the color version of the above in case that’s your preference…the blue of pre-dawn…
