It is interesting to note the similarities between this urban image of the exterior of the Denver Art Museum and the natural landscape photograph in yesterday’s post. My eye is definitely drawn to the abstract…to patterns…to tones, shades, shadows, and lines. I suspect I look to find and isolate order in the complex and chaotic. It starts from a character defect…the desire to feel secure in this crazy world by placing an artificial rectangular frame around a certain, ordered, part of it.
Also, perhaps capturing only a part of something can be more visually interesting than photographing the thing in its entirety–and it may also be more profoundly revealing of the true nature of the subject.
