The return is in the mail…time to shred it at the local skate park!
Trying to nail focus and capture the exact moment when the skaters are at apogee on their moves is tough–and not really my kind of photography. All this requires working with the different autofocus and frame rate settings, among other things. It would have helped to have been a skater in my youth, as well.
Aaargh! But, it’s always fun to try something new.
Chatting with the skaters was probably the highlight. Their’s is quite a rich subculture, with their own jargon, hierarchies, mores, and unwritten rules. All the kids were really very personable and more than willing to explain the tricks, who was who, and so on.
Your average “older” passerby out walking his Schnauzer mini, however, might tend to be intimidated into giving them a wide berth, based on appearances and the very human tendency to stereotype. Too bad.
