For this post, you’ll need to do some homework. Don’t worry, it’s fun homework and you’ll likely crack a few ribs and snort your oatmeal up your nose as you guffaw your way through it. Task: Quickly study the 24 photographs at this buzzfeed.com link.
Finished? Do I really need to say more?
The main point, of course: Make sure you don’t overconcentrate on your main subject to the detriment of the rest of your image. Yes, compose with your main subject in mind, but use at least as many brain bytes to do a little “border patrol” all the way around the edges of your image as well. Change your framing as necessary to include only what you really want in the frame. Adjust the pose of your subjects or wait for the pose to change if a candid.
Now, of course, those 24 images may have given you some whacky ideas about how to do some gross and humorous things with your own photography as well. No problem…go for it. Just be sure to send me the link so I can see what you come up with!
FINAL NOTE: In a more serious, artistic vein, check out the photographic optical illusions by Johannes Stoetter. The tree frog done with five humans is likely one you have seen bouncing around the internet. More ideas for your twisted brain?
