I have no idea how it got there onto Barceloneta’s beachfront, nor when or why (with its purposely-designed, stabilizing, 2×4 base and landscape-coordinated colors, mind you). But it was certainly the focal point of many passing vagabonds, surfers, strolling Farkle families, unleashed dogs, and tourist photographers, the latter including us.
I suppose its the idea of relaxing in your favorite stuffed armchair and having the whole beautiful world surround you with its infinite, intelligent, all-100%-natural-and-organic, Mediterranean-warm, Gaia embrace…no walls…no roof…a floor of sand to caress the bare toes… the constant rythmn of the waves the only primal echo. Limitless skies, just now modestly curtained with moody cloud-lace, and heavy with the humid salt-sea breeze…
“Have a seat, Human Bean, take a clean-deep breath, and put away your worries,” it beckons.
Yes, perhaps this chair sits well as a symbol of our aspiration to complete and total release from the human condition. (Even more so if, at high tide, the chair is swept away into oblivion and dashed to pieces!)
Maybe, seen thus, the chair could even be considered a work of art?
