Someone came up with a capital idea (as in “capitalist”, perhaps?)
Instead of hanging all that ugly netting on the facade of a building being renovated or refinished, why not just hang a monster advertisement?
All kinds of products are now showing up–writ VERY large–on the sides of buildings in Barcelona… the latest movies, designer clothing, perfume, mobile phones, the iPhone lineup figuring quite prominently (advertising its photographic capabilities, of course).
I have started “collecting” what I see are these strange juxtapositions and, for now, tossing them into a folder on my hard drive. The challenge is in how to photograph them to make them a bit more interesting than they really are. Or how to create an alternate message using these advertising facades as part of a composition with other elements.
Maybe at some point I’ll figure something out and turn this into a portfolio.
