Inspired by a couple of beautiful and icy Sawhill Ponds images sent to me by friend and fellow photographer, Dana Bove (Photography for a Change and Exploring With Merlin), I decided to brave the elements this afternoon and see what I could see.
I often think that a series of images–a “photo essay”, if you will–does a better job of communicating what I want to say as opposed to a single image.
So, here is a nine-image collection of frozen abstracts from today’s walk:

nice to see these Dan. Amazing how bright and interesting the snow patches are on the ice; I was astounded by that in my photos. You are correct, it’s so much more to see a collection of these related photos. By the way, the colors on the Marshall Mesa sunrise are really great, from the sky, to the Mountains, and differentiated in the foreground grasses. I’ve been contemplating a short geo-photo blog on the ice patterns I showed you from the other day. I think it’s a both interesting visually, and in terms of the possible genesis of the morphologies.
