Try this. The next time you have an hour or two to spare, no matter if the light is that great or not, take a stroll with your camera through an area already very familiar to you. Stroll slowly. Turn on your photographer’s eye. You might be surprised at what you find.
I did this yesterday evening in downtown Boulder. Normally, for me personally this isn’t a super inspirational area. Everything is too new and orderly, and the people too boring. (I am much more inspired by foreign cities–Barcelona, for example.) Yes, sometimes you can indeed capture the odd people-street image there, but I wasn’t really in the mood for ambushing humans. I did have a little over an hour free before meeting my spousal unit, though, so I parked, got out with one camera and one lens, and strolled. Very slowly.
And, of course, I did find a few things I hadn’t really paid attention to before…You always find something interesting if you take the time to look. Give it a try in your neighborhood!
An odd sculpture:
And speaking of love…someone with the bucks to rent the Boulder Theater for their special night:
An homage to Chelsey’s hard work:
A Porsche SUV (somewhat common in Boulder, mixed in with the massive Prius and Subaru herds, of course):
An awesome dragon, lurking on the side of a building, threatening the poor boy on the hill:
Half-hidden graffiti:

I used to love to go downtown in Boulder. However, it was thirty years ago and I have no idea what that area is like now Back then it was a closed off street with lots going on, cool shops, and a place with the greatest falafel sandwich I’ve ever had. It was all about people watching. However, I have to admit, I do not recognize a single thing in your photos. So, I guess, you win!
Nice shots, too.
Hey Teresa! It is still all about people watching. We have all kinds here–and probably always will. (Including me!) The Pearl Street Mall is quite the scene in the summer. The photos were a bit obscure–except maybe for the Boulder Theater–so not necessary to recognize them, really. Thanks for visiting! (When is that novel going to print!?)
