“The bestest camera is my very own hairy eyeball, dagnabbit. I got me one o’ them FO-TOE-generic memories, dontcha know–I don’t need no stickin’ machine full o’ highfalutin’ ‘lectronics!”
–Camp Counselor Carl, back in 1968, in 1980, in 1986, in 1991, in 2001, and again in 2024
So sorry, Carl, but I beg to differ…
iPhoneography
Our phone cameras these days are just getting better and better, often with several lenses to choose from to frame your subject and myriad ways to “develop” the images in camera–and, perhaps most importantly, these little gizmos are always in our pocket. Your phone is a tiny package of huge miracles.
I’m therefore finding fewer and fewer reasons for lugging the big brick Nikon with me, along with all its lens and tripod accoutrements (and now only do so when I am working on a specific project that may require printing large).
On the street, day-to-day, it’s usually me and my mobile phone.
Here is a random selection of iPhone images going back several months.
NOTE: Rather than work on them in camera, I prefer to download the originals onto my desktop computer and then run them through Photoshop (usually just Elements) and my favorite plugins (Nik Silver Efex and Color Efex Pro). I probably spent less than 10 minutes in post on any one of these pictures.
El Gran Teatre del Liceu
Barcelona’s famous opera house on the evening of Verdi’s Masked Ball…
Liceu, #11, Barcelona, 2024
Sant Pol de Mar (Costa de Maresme)
This is a small town up the coast a bit from Barcelona and is a nice place to go with the family when the heavily touristed “party beaches” in Barcelona are a bit too, let’s say, “active”…
Chile – Argentina
Yep, these are definitely quite random…
