I’m the artist who bought Dos e Media back in the 60’s, as I’m painting the blue around the window frames someone driving by stopped to tell me the color was “spiritual blue” and that was good luck. It was the first home I ever owned. I loaned it out to a friend when I wasn’t using it.
I moved back to Pennsylvania in 1967, had problems with a mining company wanting to tear down my cabin, resolved the problem by giving the cabin to the Ward community with an agreement that it be an artist residency. Glad to see they’ve kept their word.
Hi, I am the artist who painted the blank door. I was looking for font and style that would compliment the architecture and setting as well as direct visitors to the greenhouse entrance. I like that you found it interesting to photograph. I’m local and now live in Nederland, working and painting there. I painted the door in 2006 while I was artist in residence there teaching painting and drawing. DQ
Dennis, thanks for visiting and commenting! If you have a website, I’ll update that post and link to your website. Next time I go up there, I’ll bring you a print. That door has always attracted my eye–I love it. DanJ

Robert, thanks for filling us in with the back story–much appreciated. I’ll have to get back up there and photograph the new paint!
